Matthew L. Harris, Esq.

As a graduate of Hurricane High School, Dixie State College, and The University of Utah, Matthew is familiar with the challenges that are unique to our area. For almost a decade, he has represented individuals and businesses in the Utah State and Federal Courts. Since 2004, he has established himself as an attorney that provides quality service, exceptional advocacy, and is a knowledgeable counselor. Matthew is also a Veteran of the United State Navy Hospital Corps. Although his practice keeps him busy, he also enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and truly believes that Southern Utah is among the most beautiful places in the world.

After serving in the United States Navy Hospital Corps. and spending a couple years in a religious capacity in the United Kingdom (England and Wales), Mr. Harris attended Dixie State College (now University). Upon earning an Associate of Science from Dixie State, Mr. Harris attended The University of Utah to study psychology. While earning his Bachelor of Science in Psychology (2001), Matthew spent many hours working as a program coordinator at Ensign Peak Services. As a program coordinator, Mr. Harris became familiar with the juvenile court system in Utah, as part of his duties entailed tracking juvenile offenders (similar to a private probation officer). He also was a licensed proctor/foster parent and still keeps in contact with many of the individuals for which he served. Mr. Harris attributes much of what he has learned about dealing with difficult people to these days with the juvenile justice system and to his education in psychology.

Upon earning his bachelor's degree, Mr. Harris went on to complete his legal education at the University of Utah, as well. During this time, Matthew clerked with his father and brother's law firm, Harris & Harris Lawyers, PC. As a law clerk, Mr. Harris began developing the skills that would soon be needed when he graduated from law school. In 2004, Matthew completed his law school studies reciving his Juris Doctor from S.J. Quinney College of Law of The University of Utah. With his experience and education, Mr. Harris has been able to acquire a diverse background in many fields. It is this breadth of knowledge that allows The Harris Firm to succeed in the courts for its clients.

Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Harris took over his brother's position at Harris & Harris Lawyers. Matthew worked as a member of Harris & Harris for approximately 5 years, at which time he broke off to establish a firm of his own. In October 2009, he established The Harris Firm, LLC. The goal of The Harris Firm is to provide high quality legal serivces, in a friendly comfortable environment.

Since becoming an attorney, Mr. Harris has become known as one of the best attorneys in Southern Utah and is most reputable for his successes in the domestic and family areas of the law, including divorce, paternity, custody, support, and termination of parental rights cases. His practice has been very successful in other legal areas, including obtaining for one family over one million dollars in damages for personal injuries they sustained due to the negligence of others. He has won or successfully settled cases against the United Parcel Service (UPS), the City of Hurricane, the City of Springdale, the LDS Church, among other larger and well funded opponents. While these results are not typical of cases in Utah, Mr. Harris believes it was a privilege to assist these individuals with these cases and feels it's an honor to have the trust and confidence of all those that place their legal matters in his hands.

Mr. Harris has established precedents at the Utah Court of Appeals. He has successfully brought, argued, and overturned, a decision out of the Sixth District Court, Kane County, in the area of family law. The decision may be found at: Meyeres v. Meyeres, 2008 UT App 364.

Coming from a family of attorneys, Mr. Harris can provide additional resources for its clients that most other firms may be unable to provide for their clients. Mr. Harris keeps close connections with law firms in California, Nevada, Arizona, as well as other areas of Utah. He, individually or collectively with affiliated offices, can handle almost all legal  matters in four Southwestern States.
